Tennessee fans will be able to watch one of the members of its 2023 class on national television on Thursday night.

Four-star prospect Jordan Matthews will be playing on ESPNU on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET when Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, La., hosts Louisiana powerhouse Zachary (La.) High School.

Matthews will have his work cut out for him as Zachary’s quarterback, Eli Holstein, is ranked as a four-star prospect and committed to Alabama.

Matthews took to social media to showcase his cleats for the televised contest.

Matthews was extended a scholarship offer from Tennessee in May 2021. The 6-foot-1, 184-pound defensive back committed to Tennessee in August, surprising many as he seemed to be leaning towards Texas.

Tennessee could definitely use the help in their secondary. The Volunteers are last in the SEC in passing defense. Tennessee is allowing 309.3 yards per game through the air.

Matthews comes from a football family. His father, Roshaun Matthews, played at LSU and Southern before continuing his career in the NFL.

LSU has been heavily pursing the younger Matthews, even after his commitment to Tennessee. Assuming he stays committed to the Volunteers, he could have an immediate impact on a defense that needs the help.
