Tennessee hosted four-star Derrick McFall on campus over the weekend. The utility player has been courted by the likes of Alabama and Florida.

Now, the Vols are tying to get into the mix.

“I got to talk to coach (graduate assistant Aston) Walter,” McFall told Off The Hook. “He’s from where I’m from, Texas. He knew where I was when I first arrived.”

The prospect out of Tyler (Texas) High School ranks as the No. 275 prospect nationally, and the No. 21 athlete in his class. He is just starting to form a relationship with Tennessee.

“It’s been off and on,” McFall said. “There will definitely be a change, they will definitely change my thinking in the recruitment process.”

McFall said he’s talking to Alabama, Texas A&M, Miami and TCU the most currently. Tennessee impressed him with his facilities and made him want to come back.

“I want to see more,” the 5-foot-10, 175-pound prospect said.

Early on in the relationship, McFall could see the Vols playing a role down the line in his recruitment.

“It stands high for sure,” he said of where Tennessee stands in his recruitment. “Just because of the SEC, and I like the school Tennessee and the vibe out here.”

He plans to release his top schools in May before announcing his commitment in the middle of his senior season.

McFall hopes to be an all-purpose running back in high school, able to run the ball and split out wide to receiver. He models his playstyle a lot after Vol alumni Alvin Kamara.

Seeing pictures of Kamara around the facility and on Neyland Stadium piqued McFalls interest.

“Soon as I arrived, I was looking for pictures of Alvin Kamara and asking about him,” McFall said.

“I want to be just like how Alvin Kamara was, a receiving back. Play out of the slot, receive, special teams, I want to do all of it.”
