Tennessee made the cut for an elite cornerback on Monday. Four-star prospect Ify Obidegwu release his top seven schools, including the Vols.

Obidegwu also included Alabama, Maryland, Michigan, Oregon, Southern Calif. and Ohio State as well as Tennessee.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback out of St. Francis Academy in Baltimore has received over 25 scholarship offers, including offers from all seven of his top choices. Tennessee extended him a scholarship offer in August.

Obidegwu was on campus for Tennessee’s matchup with UT Martin as well as the Vols’ first junior day earlier last month. He said at Tennessee’s junior day that he was impressed with what he saw.

“This visit was amazing just like the first one,” Obidegwu told 247Sports. “The atmosphere — the football and basketball game was almost no different. It was great. Overall, the coaches — Coach Tim Banks, he’s a great guy. He was talking to me and my family. And Coach Heupel, he was great, too. Everybody. Coach Martinez, talked to all of them. Talking to them privately, my parents love ‘em, but overall, it was a great environment.”

Since his trip to Knoxville for Tennessee’s junior day, the No. 158 prospect nationally has received a lot of attention. He was extended offers from Alabama, Miami, Indiana and Wisconsin. He also made a trip to Oregon for an unofficial visit before the February dead period.

Obidegwu also ranks as the No. 15 cornerback in his class and the No. 6 prospect from Maryland.

Tennessee has placed Obidegwu as one of its top prospects for the class of 2024. The Vols made the cut in his top seven, but it will be something to watch if they can continue to hang with powerhouses like Alabama and Ohio State.

Tennessee currently has three commitments in the class of 2024 – four-star athlete Johnathan Echols, four-star cornerback Kaleb Beasley and three-star defensive lineman Carson Gentle.
