Happy Cinco de Mayo! Caleb Calhoun rides solo for Off The Hook Sports’ Friday, May 5 podcast with plenty of Tennessee football news, including more NFL Draft and spring coverage. Also, is there a growing concern surrounding one of the major Power Five conferences? Former Vol Fred White joins as well.

Tennessee football WR named sleeper draft pick

Anonymous SEC and Power Five coaches named Tennessee football wide receiver Cedric Tillman, who was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, one of the sleeper picks. Tillman was the Vols’ 1,000-yard receiver before Jalin Hyatt, and despite Hyatt winning the Biletnikoff Award last year, many scouts and analyst consider Tillman the better prospect.

247Sports lists spring takeaways for Tennessee football, SEC

The main takeaway for Tennessee football from Brad Crawford of 247Sports is the fact that Joe Milton III is clearly the Vols’ starter. That contradicts Barrett Sallee’s self-described overreaction earlier in the week that Nico Iamaleava would be the starter for the Vols in their opener against the Virginia Cavaliers. Which of those statements is more likely to be true? What did Crawford say about other SEC teams?

Fred White joins

It’s a Football Friday with Fred. Former Vol Fred White joins for his weekly appearance on the Off The Hook Sports podcast to discuss the Vols, which includes looking back on the NFL Draft last week and spring practice while also reminiscing the 1998 national championship season for Tennessee football. White was the starting safety on that team.

Is the Pac-12 in trouble?

In a major blow to one of the oldest Power Five conferences, the Pac-12 securing a deal with ESPN to carry their tier 1 games appears to no longer be an option. How much trouble does this spell for the conference given the fact that the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins will be joining the Big Ten very soon? Could the Big 12 absorb the league?
