It was another huge day of news for Vols’ athletics, from a Tennessee football pay raise to a former Vol’s snubbing. Caleb Calhoun and Dave Hooker touched on all of it, and they also had a special guest to talk about the men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Josh Heupel gets raise as Tennessee football head coach

News came out Tuesday that Josh Heupel’s annual salary increased from $5 million to $9 million. An article on Off The Hook Sports says the move is to keep Heupel out of the NFL, as some pro team is bound to want to utilize his offensive mind in the future. Was the deal worth it, though? How much more could he make going forward, and how committed is he to the Vols?

Ron Slay talks basketball programs

On his way to Auburn to cover the Tigers’ Wednesday night matchup with the Texas A&M Aggies for SEC Network, Tennessee basketball legend Ron Slay made time to join the podcast and discuss both basketball programs. Slay talked about Josiah-Jordan James’ emergence on the men’s side in the Vols’ win over the LSU Tigers last weekend and what’s on the table for them going forward as they get set to host the Georgia Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, the Lady Vols are about to have two huge matchups with the UConn Huskies Thursday and the LSU Tigers Sunday. Slay talks the state of the program under Kellie Harper and if anybody can fill the giant shoes Pat Summitt left when she stepped down nearly a decade ago.

Former Tennessee football and baseball Vol snubbed from Hall of Fame

Todd Helton, who played quarterback for the Vols in 1993 and 1994 and baseball for them through 1996, was snubbed from the Baseball Hall of Fame Tuesday. As written here on Off The Hook Sports, this is a disgrace for the MLB. Helton’s 13-year career with the Colorado Rockies makes it very clear he belongs.

Danny White receives extension

In addition to Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel receiving a raise, the Vols’ Athletic Director, Danny White, received an extension. UTSports announced the news as the show was underway Wednesday. White’s contract extension has a starting salary of $2.2 million. Was that raise worth it? The podcast closes with a discussion on that.
