Peyton Lewis, a four-star running back, was on campus again on Saturday to watch Tennessee Football wrap up spring practice with the Orange and White game.

Lewis, who ranks as the No. 20 running back in his class, has quickly become one of Tennessee’s top targets. His visit on Saturday included bowling with the coaches, and getting to see how the Vols will utilize him in the offense.

“They discussed with me that they would make a separate playbook called ‘FTS,’ which means ‘feed the stud,’” Lewis told Off The Hook. “It would be different specific plays made just for me in order to be successful in the games. They just talked with me about that.”

Lewis ranks as the No. 246 prospect nationally. His speed and quickness out of the backfield allow him to be very versatile. He set personal bests in the 55-meter (6.34) and 300-meter (35.25) this spring and won a state championship in track for his high school, Salem (VA.).

“I really liked the scrimmage. I really got to see how players and coaches operate during somewhat of a gameday vibe, atmosphere. It was really cool, and also being able to see coach (Jerry) Mack and coach (Ashton) Walter work with their athletes on Friday during the Fast Friday practice.”

Lewis has become very close with Tennessee running back coach Jerry Mack. The two stay in contact often, as well as graduate assistant Ashton Walter.

“It’s very strong between me and coach Mack, and coach Walter too,” Lewis said. “We have a very strong relationship and we talk a lot. Getting over there, him seeing my family again. He loves my family, so, even from the beginning we just clicked instantly.”

Lewis has locked in an official visit with Tennessee for the end of June. Ranked the No. 246 prospect nationally, Tennessee wanted Lewis on campus with their top prospects.

“He had told me that during the 23-25, it’s the time they want all their No. 1 guys to be on campus,” Lewis said. “So, I definitely had to take advantage of that opportunity and be there with some of the other recruits they have.”

Lewis also got to talk to some players following the spring game in the locker room. Particularly, he got to catch up with talented freshman running back Cam Seldon.

“He was just telling me about how he was from Virginia too, and how he had a great experience coming to Tennessee,” Lewis said. “It was kind of small talk but he was a very cool dude to talk to.”

Lewis expects to make a commitment announcement following his June visits. He has visits planned to Alabama next weekend and South Carolina in the summer. Coming away from his visit, he holds Tennessee in high regard as one of his top schools.
