Tennessee football appears on outside looking in for Ole Miss transfer DB Davison Igbinosun

Davison Igbinosun, the highly touted transfer cornerback out of Ole Miss, is officially trending somewhere, and it may not be Tennessee football.

Igbinosun is leaning towards transferring to Ohio State after he visited Colombus this weekend. Chris Hummer of 247Sports put in a crystal ball prediction, projecting Igbinosun to the Buckeyes.

Igbinosun took to Instagram to post pictures from his visits to Ohio State and Michigan. He also posted on social media that he was in Los Angeles, visiting UCLA over the weekend.

He was likely familiar with Knoxville from his high school recruitment and did not plan to visit the Vols during his whirlwind of a weekend. Tennessee football made the final cut of schools in Igbinosun’s original recruitment, and the Vols have been aggressive since he entered the portal.

UT’s add/drop deadline for classes passed on Monday. It is doubtful that the add/drop deadline plays a role in Igbinosun’s recruitment. Schools can likely find a loophole, or he may enroll later if need be.

Not many expected him to take the number of visits he has taken. Initially, it seemed that Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Tennessee were the likely landing spots for Igbinosun.

Now, it seems like a three-way race between Ohio State, Michigan, and UCLA for the cornerback’s talents. As with most things involving the transfer portal, Igbinosun’s recruitment has been very fluid and secretive.

A commitment date for the 6-foot-2, 185-pound is unknown, but will likely happen soon. With spring practices ramping up very soon, it is likely that Igbinosun will make his decision sooner rather than later.

There is also still the chance that he waits for his former defensive coordinator, Christ Partridge, to land a new job. Partridge was very involved in getting Igbinosun to Oxford, and Igbinosun cited coaching staff uncertainties as his reason for transferring on Jan. 14.

“I want to thank the Ole Miss community and coach Kiffin for giving me the opportunity to play at their school,” he wrote. “But at this moment due to the uncertainty in the coaching staff, it’s best for me to enter the Transfer Portal.”

Igbinosun appeared in 11 games as a freshman at Ole Miss, tallying 37 total tackles and five pass breakups. Not long before announcing his intention to transfer, Igbinosun inked a deal with “The Grove Collective,” Ole Miss’ NIL group.

He ranks near the top of available transfer prospects. Coming out of high school in 2022, Ingbinosun was the No. 1 cornerback out of New Jersey.
