Rocky Top’s monster weekend began Friday as Tennessee football picked up its 10th commitment for 2024 while the basketball Vols picked up their third transfer of the week. Caleb Calhoun and Dave Hooker address both on Off The Hook’s Monday, April 24 podcast along with the Alabama Crimson Tide’s quarterback issues, new college football rules changes and the transfer portal.

Georgia DL Jeremias Heard commits to Tennessee football

Rome, Ga., 2024 defensive lineman Jeramias Heard became the 10th commitment to Tennessee football on Friday. The three-star out of Model 9-12 High School, as written about here on Off The Hook Sports, could be a major steal for the Vols. Last year, his junior year, was his first year playing football since he was in the eighth grade.

Will Tennessee football add anybody in the transfer portal?

In addition to picking up a recruit, Tennessee football lost defensive lineman Amari McNeill to the transfer portal over the weekend. If the Vols are going to pick up somebody in this portal window, what is the most important position for them to target? How much should they prioritize the portal for different positions?

How much will proposed rules changes affect Tennessee football?

New college football rules changes include the clock no longer stopping to move the chains on first down except for the final two minutes of each half. Does that work against what Tennessee football likes to do with Josh Heupel? Could this have an impact, one way or the other, on players faking injuries?

Alabama QBs struggle in spring game

Jalen Milroe already proved to be awful last year, but Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson was awful at A-Day. What does that mean for Nick Saban and Bama football? Will they target a quarterback in the transfer portal? Is this more evidence that he could have his worst team in over a decade this year?

Northern Colorado transfer commits to Tennessee basketball

Following Jordan Gainey and Chris Ledlum, Dalton Knecht became the third transfer to Tennessee basketball last week. What does he bring to the Vols as a 6’6″ guard who shot 38 percent from the three-point line last year? Should Rick Barnes’ team be much better from outside next year?
