In its first 11-win season since 2001, Tennessee football is buzzing with football excitement. This weekend, the Vols will have their first junior day since the historic season.
Prospects will get to see Knoxville, Tennessee’s campus, and will get to attend the Vols basketball matchup with Kentucky. Coming off the No. 9 class in the nation for 2023, the Vols will look to continue their momentum in the 2024 class.
Here’s a look at some visitors expected to be in Knoxville this weekend.
WR Ryan Wingo
Wingo has been a top target for the Vols in the class of 2024. Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports gave a crystal ball for Wingo, projecting him to Tennessee. The Vols extended him a scholarship offer in March.
He ranks as a five-star prospect, and the No. 14 prospect nationally. He also ranks as the No. 3 wide receiver in the class of 2024.
Wingo’s high ranking is no surprise. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound prospect had a great season for St. Louis University High School in Saint Louis, Missouri. He finished 2023 with 41 catches for 785 yards and 13 total touchdowns.
ATH Mike Matthews
Matthews, a five-star prospect in the 2024 class, is also expected to be in Knoxville. Matthews ranks as the No.3 prospect nationally, and the No. 1 athlete in his class.
At the next level, Matthews could play safety or wide receiver. He racked up over 1,000 receiving yards for Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga.
The 6-2, 180-pound athlete is also a star on the hardwood and on the track. Playing basketball, Matthews has put big numbers and even picked up division one attention.
On the track, Matthews was clocked running an 11.57-second 100-yard dash.
ATH Boo Carter
Carter, a four-star athlete out of Chattanooga, Tenn., announced on Twitter he will be in Knoxville this weekend.
The athlete out of Brainerd High School in Chattanooga (Tenn.) has been a priority for Josh Heupel and his staff. Carter has been to Knoxville several times, and Heupel took a trip to visit Carter in Chattanooga.
Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports gave a crystal ball projection for Carter, predicting he will end up in the Orange and White.
Carter ranks as the No. 5 prospect in the state of Tennessee. He also ranks as the No. 268 prospect nationally in the class of 2024, and the No. 32 athlete.
LB Edwin Spillman
Spillman, a four-star linebacker from Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, TN., is expected to be on campus this weekend. Spillman’s brother, Nate, is a member of the Vols’ 2023 class.
Spillman is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Tennessee and led talented Lipscomb Academy in tackles in 2022. He also ranks as the No. 98 prospect in the class of 2024.
Wiltfong predicts the 6-1, 216-pound linebacker to Tennessee.
EDGE Danny Okoye
Okoye doesn’t hold a ranking yet, but he has been climbing in national buzz. Now holding over 20 offers, Okoye is becoming a premium prospect in the 2024 class.
He informed Off The Hook Sports of his high interest in Tennessee football in September following the Vols scholarship offer.
“I think they’re a really good team,” Okoye said then. “Definitely one that I would keep up high on my list.”
Okoye finished the 2022 season with 78 tackles, 21 for loss, 10.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles for NOAH Homeschool in Tulsa, OK.
OT Donovan Harbour
Harbour is expected to be on campus this weekend. Harbour recently announced his top-seven schools including Tennessee football as well as Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Florida.
Harbour measures out at 6-5 and 310-pounds. The four-star attends Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
He is the No. 60 prospect nationally, and the No. 1 prospect from Wisconsin. Harbour was last in Knoxville for Tennessee’s win against Alabama. He was extended a scholarship offer in April.
CB Ify Obidegwu
Obidegwu is expected to be at Tennessee this weekend. The four-star was last in Knoxville to watch the Vols’ rout of UT Martin.
He ranks as the No. 158 prospect nationally, as well as the No. 15 cornerback in the class of 2024.
The 6-1 and 185-pound defensive back attends St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, MD.
S Edrees Farooq
Obidegwu’s St. Frances Academy teammate, Farooq, is also expected to be in Knoxville this weekend.
Farooq ranks as the No. 19 prospect from Maryland.
