It was a heavy day of news for Tennessee basketball to kick off the third week of January. Caleb Calhoun and Dave Hooker discussed what transpired over the weekend. Tennessee football also made news on the recruiting front and the transfer portal. A special guest also joined for one segment.

Tennessee basketball falls to Kentucky

The show started with a discussion about what happened Saturday as the Vols lost a shocker at home to the Wildcats. UT came out flat for a noon tipoff and lost 63-56 to a team that had been reeling. It was a performance that warranted criticism from Hooker in this column. Sure, it’s Kentucky, but this Vols team, ranked No. 5 going into the game, should have beaten them, especially with Chris Lofton’s jersey being retired that day.

Tennessee football junior day recap

Even as the Vols lost to Kentucky, Josh Heupel and the football staff hosted lots of elite recruits over the weekend. Many of them tweeted about their experiences, which you can see in a column that Caleb Jarreau wrote here. Players likely to commit and top targets were discussed during the show.

Tayven Jackson enters transfer portal

On Friday after the show, Tennessee football lost quarterback Tayven Jackson to the transfer portal. He has since committed to his home state school, the Indiana Hoosiers. What this means for the Vols was a major topic Monday, and the take was surprising. Both Calhoun and Hooker say this is about Nico Iamaleava’s abilities more than Jackson. The race is now likely down to Iamaleava and Joe Milton III for 2023.

Bert Bertelkamp joins to talk Tennessee basketball

Building off of their discussion about Tennessee basketball losing to the Wildcats, Vol Network color commentator Bert Bertelkamp joined the show to discuss what happened. Bertelkamp said the Vols came out flat and that they underestimated UK and just how talented that team still is.
